David Crowther is a multifaceted expert specializing in business administration, game theory, psychology, and accountancy. He is a qualified accountant with over 20 years of experience working as an accountant, systems specialist, and general manager in local government, industry, and commerce.

After several years in the financial services sector—including a tenure as divisional managing director of a multinational company where he set up and ran a credit card scheme—he decided to leave the business world and pursue an academic career. In 1994, he joined Aston University and earned a PhD in 1999 for his research into corporate social performance. In 2001, he became the world’s first Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Currently, David holds various academic positions, including professorships and visiting professorships at multiple institutions. He also serves as Chief Research Fellow at the Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics and is a board member and President of the Sustainability Research Institute at Ansted University. His consulting work spans advising US Presidential candidates, the United Nations, the European Union, and various governments worldwide.

David has published more than 60 books and contributed several hundred articles to academic, business, and professional journals, as well as edited book collections. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences and seminars and has consulted extensively for government, professional, and commercial organizations.

In 2002, he founded the Social Responsibility Journal and established the Social Responsibility Research Network, an international body with several thousand members and associated international conferences, journals, and book series. In 2010, he further expanded his influence by founding the Organisation Governance Network and its conference series.

Recognized globally and listed in Who’s Who in the World among other directories, his research focuses on sustainability, governance, and corporate social responsibility, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between social, environmental, and financial performance.
